This course will help you develop culturally sensitive perspectives on healing modalities of different cultures and their application to current nursing practice. An international experience in Belize will create a comprehensive understanding and appreciation for global health issues, social determinants of health, and challenges of healthcare delivery in resource-constrained and marginalized communities. Students will visit hospitals, nursing homes, a mental health facility, clinics, a residential home for children, meet with a community health workers program and a university's nursing program. This is tentative, but students may be able to do home visits with a local community health worker and conduct a daylong health-style free clinic. There will be a scheduled fun day at the end where students will have the opportunity to visit a beach, go cave tubing, or another recreational activity that has yet to be decided. This program is for NUR 352-Exploring Transcultural Nursing and is being led by Professor Tippin, Associate Professor of Nursing and Dr. Steffens, Assistant Professor & Director of Nursing Education
