Program Description

This course will help you develop
culturally sensitive perspectives on healing
modalities of different cultures and their
application to current nursing practice.
An international experience in Belize will
create a comprehensive understanding and
appreciation for global health issues, social
determinants of health, and challenges of
healthcare delivery in resource-constrained
and marginalized communities.

Students will visit hospitals, nursing homes, a mental health facility, clinics, a residential home for children, meet with a community health workers program and a university's nursing program. This is tentative, but students may be able to do home visits with a local community health worker and conduct a daylong health-style free clinic. There will be a scheduled fun day at the end where students will have the opportunity to visit a beach, go cave tubing, or another recreational activity that has yet to be decided.

This program is for NUR 352-Exploring Transcultural Nursing and is being led by Professor Tippin, Associate Professor of Nursing and Dr. Steffens, Assistant Professor & Director of Nursing Education
